Meet Our Team

Dr. Tonisha Melvin, APRN, CRRN, ANP-C, PMHNP-BC

I live in Bethesda, MD with my husband of 26+ years, our 17-year-old son, and our new addition to the family Pluto (who is a Boston Terrier). We also have a 26-year-old who is a mechanical engineer. I am a wife, mother, advanced practice registered nurse, writer, and lover of dark chocolate! I enjoy spending time with my family, snowboarding, reading, being a fitness coach, gardening, cleaning, volunteering, writing/blogging, going to the mountains, and meeting new people.

I have over 16 years of nursing experience. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Mercer University and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi multidisciplinary collegiate honor society in 2017. I am certified as an adult nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse by the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. I also have a vast amount of medical-surgical, telemetry, spinal cord injury, peri-operative, and ICU experience.

In 2019, 2020, and 2022 I was named one of the numerous African American Leaders in Healthcare by Becker’s Hospital Review. I am also a contributing author of The Charge Nurse Leader Program Builder: A Competency-Based Approach for Developing Frontline Leaders, a comprehensive curriculum and roadmap for developing nurse leaders and ensuring charge nurses are trained, mentored, and supported in their roles, and a columnist for Phi Kappa Phi’s The Forum.

I am currently the President and Co-CEO of DMV Medical Group, LLC in Kensington, MD, where we currently provide a variety of healthcare services. Additionally, we provide care to our nation's veterans by partnering with different companies. I also volunteer my time with the American Nurses Association, the Georgia Nurses Association, and the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, and was commissioned by the State Board of Maryland’s Environmental Health Specialist.
